Australian Skilled Immigration Points Requirements for 2024

Businesses and skilled professionals can migrate to Australia depending on their skill sets, educational qualifications, and work experience. A positive Skill Assessment test result will determine your eligibility for Australian Skilled Immigration for permanent residency.

The Skilled Occupation List(SOL) comprises occupations included on the Skilled Occupation List under 50 years old, have English language proficiency, and have sufficient work experience in the related discipline.

General Skilled Migration Visa

SkillSelect requires an Expression of Interest (EOI) for different visa types. You can then apply for a qualified visa by nominating an Australian State or Territory. You must meet specific points for Australian Immigration to use for this visa. It would help if you met the following topics:

1. Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) Visa

You don’t need a sponsor for a skilled independent visa, and you can apply based on the point system. If your nominated occupation is listed on MLTSSL’s occupation list, you can submit an expression of interest (EOI) and be invited to apply for the visa.

2. Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) Visa

You can live, study, and work permanently in Australia with a Skilled Nomination visa. To apply, you need to submit an Expression of Interest(EOI) using a nominated occupation list from the State or Territory.

3. Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491) Visa

Provisional visas are also known as skilled work regional visas. Professionals and their families can live, study, and work in Australia’s preferred regional areas for five years. Visas are available for five years. After completing all documents and the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) for three years, you will be eligible for permanent residence.

6. Age Group

Each age group receives different points. The age group, 25-32, will receive the highest points 30, 18-24 & 33-39 will get 25 points, 40-44 years will get 15 points, and 45-49 will not earn any points.

5. English Language Proficiency

Students will be evaluated based on their speaking skills, listening skills, reading skills, and writing skills. A score of eight or more provides 20 points, a score of seven or more offers 10 points, and a score of six or more offers 0 points. IELTS, PTE, and other recognized language tests would be helpful.

6. Skilled Employment

Skilled employers in Australia that have between 8 and 10 years of experience from the date of application will receive 20 points. An applicant from another country must have 8 to 10 years of work experience for 15 points. Work experience of 1,3,8,10 year will provide 5, 10, 15, 20 points. Applicants outside of Australia who have 3,5,8 years of work experience will be given 5, 10, 15 points, respectively.

7. Educational Qualification

State or territory nominations should specify the qualifications of candidates, and these qualifications must also meet Australian standards. Points will be awarded for postgraduate qualifications for those with a bachelor’s degree and a postgraduate degree. Capabilities such as a doctorate, a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, a diploma, an award, or a qualification recognized by the assessing authority in assessing a skilled occupation will contribute 20, 15, and 10 points, respectively.

8. Australian Qualifications

Australian educational qualifications are also considered in the Australian Immigration points calculator. Those who have studied in Australia for at least two years will receive five points.

Any degree, diploma, or trade qualification earned in Australia will be awarded 5 points after two years of study.

9. Regional Study

A minimum of two years of educational experience in Australia is required. Students must live in regional Australia. Regional Australians or those living in low-population areas will receive five points. It will help you to fulfill your dream of settling in Australia.

After studying for two years in a regional or low population area and obtaining a degree, diploma, or trade qualification in Australia, you will receive five points.

10. Community Language Skills 

The National Accreditation Authority must accredit Australian translators and interpreters for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). A minimum of 5 points is required for accreditation, and the NAATI translator received 5 points for language skill assessment.

11. Spouse/Partner Skills and Qualifications

Applicants can get points based on the skills and qualifications of their spouse if their spouse is mentioned in their visa application. Applicants’ spouses or partners outside of Australia must meet their age and English competency requirements and their nominated occupation. Spouses and partners who meet the basic requirements will earn 5 points.

12. Professional Year

Professional years provide on-the-job training and formal education as part of professional development. You can earn extra points if you have completed a four-year professional year in Australia.

You will receive an extra 5 points if you have completed a 4-year professional year in Australia.

13. Nomination and Sponsorship

According to the Australian PR Visa points calculator, nominations might earn extra points if the territory or state sponsors the applicant. However, this criteria also applies to skilled regional and nominated visas.

Depending on the current situation and the economic conditions created by COVID-19, you may need to fulfill 90 points for the PR. Health workers such as nurses and doctors who have a research profile in the medicinal field are given 189 and 190 visas.
